Keep in mind the following tips to ensure safety this summer.
Summer home tips:
- Check your deck and patio for deterioration or safety hazards such as loose boards or protruding nails.
- Check electrical outlets for potential fire hazards. Also, be sure not to overload electrical outlets, fuse boxes, extension cords or any other power service.
- Check all locks to make sure they are secure.
- Inspect recreational equipment for proper operation and possible dangers.
- Inspect your toilet for erosion of plastic floater valves and check all pipes.
- Clean/replace your furnace filter.
- Clean your dryer exhaust duct and space under the dryer by removing all lint, dust or other materials.
- Inspect washing machine hoses and replace hoses that show signs of wear/leakage.
- Have your roof inspected by a professional periodically.
Summer travel tips:
- Don't overload when packing and if you are traveling by car, spread out the load so the weight is evenly distributed.
- Be prepared. Pack snacks, extra clothes, and fun items to keep your children entertained while you are in the car or on your flight.
- Keep a clear view if you are traveling by car. Make sure you maintain a proper line of sight with your mirrors and windows, because sometimes bags can get in the way.
- Ready the roof rack by knowing your rack's weight limit and recognizing the height of your vehicle after packing.
- Know the route that you are traveling before you hop in the car or depart for the airport.
- Secure your pets to keep them distracting you while you drive.
- Cruise carefully and wisely.
- Take a break when you are traveling long distances so that you can maintain focus and avoid fatigue.
- Make sure your insurance is paid before you leave
