About to purchase this weekend and want to know if you're covered?
This is one of the most common questions we get. New vehicle owners want to know they have coverage on newly purchased vehicles once they drove it off the lot. If they are unable to secure coverage before they drove off the lot, the existing auto policy extends coverage to newly acquired vehicles for personal use.
“Newly acquired auto” means any of the following types of vehicles on the date you become the owner:
1. A private passenger auto or utility vehicle; or
2. A pickup or van with a G.V.W. of 25,000 lbs. or less not used for the delivery or transportation of goods, materials or supplies other than samples; unless:
a. The delivery of goods, materials or supplies is not the primary usage of the vehicle; or
b. Used for farming or ranching.
This provision (I.) applies only if you:
a. Acquire the vehicle during the policy period; and
b. Notify us within 20 days after you become the owner. If the vehicle you acquire replaces one shown in the Declarations, it will have the same coverage as the vehicle it replaced. You must notify us of a replacement vehicle within 20 days only if you wish to add or continue coverage under the Coverage To Your Auto Coverage Section. If the vehicle you acquire is in addition to any shown in the Declarations, it will have the broadest coverage we now provide for any vehicle shown in the Declarations.
