We see more auto accidents in December than any other month due to heavy holiday traffic and the distraction of the holiday rush.
We hope you do not have an accident but if you do, do you know what to do?
Immediately After an Auto Accident
- Stay Calm
- Check for injuries, call an ambulance or 911 if there are injuries involved.
- If accident is minor, move vehicles to a safe place out of traffic
- Turn on vehicle's hazard lights and use cones so others can see you
- Call the police, even if the accident is minor. If private property, police may not come though.
- Get witnesses if you are not at fault - ask for a witness name and phone number - this will be important in case the other party changes their story
- Take pictures with camera phone of damage of other vehicles and license plate and drivers license and insurance card of other parties.
- Always get contact information like phone numbers and address of all parties
- Always get the insurance information like carrier and policy number or take picture of other's ID card of other parties
- If possible, don't leave the accident scene until police and other drivers do.
- If you need your vehicle to be towed call a tow service or your carrier's roadside service.
- If you need a rental car call Enterprise at 1-800-261-7331. They can come pick you up from the scene of the accident and take you to get a rental car.
- When safe to do so, please contact us or your carrier so we can help you.
