As an insurance agent, I see an increase in the number of auto accidents each day. Distracted driving is the leading cause and most preventable cause of auto accidents.
Any activity that distracts a driver can lead to a serious accident. Common distractions include texting, eating and drinking, grooming, reading maps/directions, adjusting the radio, and more. These activities may seem harmless, but the fact is that hundreds of thousands of people in the U.S. are killed or injured every year as a result of distracted driving.
In Texas a driver will be ticketed for the following:
1. Ban on all cell phone use (handheld and hands-free) for novice drivers
2. Ban on texting for novice drivers
3. Ban on use of hand-held phones and texting in school zones
4. Ban on texting for bus drivers
5. Ban on all cell phone use (handheld and hands-free) for bus drivers
If you see another driver texting or distracted, move away from that vehicle to avoid any injuries. Stay safe and let us know if you have questions about distracted driving and how your auto insurance protects you.
