Have you made sure you are covered to drive for companies such as Uber or Lyft? If not, now’s the time!
Earning extra income by driving for rideshare companies has become very common. With this growing trend, many insurance carriers have made an effort to respect this form of employment and offer endorsed coverage on their policies. Although, we tend to think that if we are careful drivers we can avoid being in an accident, that is not always true. Accidents can happen at any time, anywhere, so it is important to make sure you are properly insured.
Although some coverage is provided by the rideshare company, this does not mean that your entire ride will be covered. The option to endorse this coverage is not provided by every insurance carrier, however many of the carriers do have an option to note the auto policy if any of the vehicles will participate in rideshare.
If you are currently working for a rideshare company, or plan to in the future, make sure your policy is properly noted and endorsed to ensure you have the correct coverage. It is very important to let your agent know that you are using your vehicle to drive other individuals through a rideshare program. Make sure you let them know ahead of time, and do not wait until you have already had an accident.
