All carriers are not the same.   Be sure to ask if you are using an admitted vs non admitted carrier.    If you are being offered an non admitted carrier please know that they are not regulated and monitored by the department of insurance to have sufficient surplus to pay claims.   Non admitted carriers have a greater likelihood of insolvency but more importantly, they are not backed up by the State Guaranty Fund.   In Texas, the State Guaranty Bank reinsures your home up to $300,000 if your carrier goes insolvent if you use an admitted carrier so if you are using a non admited carrier you will not be reinsured.   That is like placing your bank deposit into a bank that is not FDIC insured.   It's very risky.

Use an independent insurance agency who has many admitted carriers to offer you.   Many captive agents who can only offer limited carriers who resort to offering non admitted carriers.  Do not settle for us.
